Milan Readying Decisive Bid to Sign In-Demand Midfielder

Serie A giants Milan are preparing a decisive assault on highly sought-after midfielder Youssouf Fofana. As per Corriere dello Sport, the Rossoneri director Geoffrey Moncada is keen to iron out a deal for the France international despite facing stiff competition from several top clubs.

In addition to Milan, Paris Saint-Germain and Premier League powerhouses Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur have set their sights on the 25-year-old. Fofana has been indispensable for Monaco since joining the club from Strasbourg in 2020. But regardless of his household status in the French Riviera, he’s on the verge of leaving Stade Louis II.

Fofana’s contract runs out in 2025, and the Ligue 1 runners-up are looking to cash in on their prized asset this summer. Milan would need to part with around €20-25 million to sign the electrifying box-to-box midfielder. Given the player’s contractual situation, there’s a feeling the Rossoneri could get a discount if they agree on personal terms with Fofana.

That could be easier said than done, with PSG and Liverpool keen to spoil their plans. Aware of the strength of the competition, Milan have devised a backup plan to give new manager Paulo Fonseca a dependable defensive midfielder. Andre Trindade of Fluminense has landed on the Italians’ radar.

At 21, Andre is among the hottest South American prospects and has already earned five caps for Brazil. But like in Fofana’s case, Milan would likely have to overcome Liverpool to bring the super-talented midfielder to Europe.
