Milan Rekindle Interest in Aston Villa Midfielder

It’s no secret Milan are in the market for a new deep-lying midfielder to provide competition to Tijjani Reijnders and Ismael Bennacer. According to Calciomercato, the Italians have sounded out Aston Villa about in-demand star Douglas Luiz.

Milan executives were in London yesterday to broker several deals. Matty Cash was among the hottest topics. The Villa right-back ticks all the boxes for a right-back type the Rossoneri are keen to recruit this summer. Talks are reportedly underway.

But Milan used the occasion to address other issues. It’s not the first time they’ve asked about Luiz. He was on the club’s shortlist last summer before they arranged deals for Yunus Musah and Reijnders. However, the Brazilian’s name is back in fashion.

It could be due to Yacine Adli’s uncertain future. Milan would reportedly listen to offers for the young gun despite his decent breakout Serie A campaign. His potential exit may speed up negotiations for the ex-Girona midfielder’s arrival.

Luiz has a host of admirers. In addition to Milan, several Premier League clubs, including Arsenal, have taken interest in the 26-year-old. Perhaps surprisingly, Calciomercato names Juventus as the leading candidates to snap up the Brazil international.

Milan are reportedly behind, though the situation can change in a heartbeat. It will largely depend on Paulo Fonseca’s tactical choices. Geoffrey Moncada appreciates Luiz’s qualities, but the former Lille coach should have the final say.

Either way, it’s no doubt Luiz would be an upgrade on the current Milan midfielders.
