Milan Reportedly Did Not Have Any Chance to Keep Donnarumma

The departure of Gianluigi Donnarumma continues to be a much talked-about topic in Italy. The goalkeeper recently voiced his malcontent for his current situation at PSG. Instead, Milan have been able to bounce back nicely by signing Mike Maignan despite the recent injury.

While some reports suggest otherwise, Donnarumma had long made up his mind about leaving, and Milan had no shot at retaining him, Alfredo PedullĂ  informs. The Italian international was eager to try something new. The economic aspect was not a primary factor in his decision.

Donnarumma himself hinted at it out in a pair of interviews. According to the transfer market expert, he decided to bolt in September, regardless of his team’s final position. The Rossoneri tried to keep him but were aware of the situation. They went out and acquired Mike Maignan early. They secured his replacement while the extension talks were supposedly still ongoing.

On the other hand, Donnarumma had yet to choose his next destination. He thought he would join Juventus before the ousting of Fabio Paratici. Instead, Massimiliano Allegri and the new front office opted to stick with Wojciech Szczesny. PSG eventually swooped in and put him under contract despite already having a starter in-house in Keylor Navas. Barcelona were never really seriously in the race.

It remains to be seen how long Donnarumma will tolerate the dualism before looking for a way out. He has featured in seven matches, while the Costa Rican shot-stopper has started ten times.
