Milan Star Tomori Talks Contract Renewal and Season Plans

Milan will take on Austrian side Wolfsberg AC in their first pre-season friendly tonight, and defender Fikayo Tomori believes the Rossoneri are stronger than ever ahead of the new season.

The Englishman spoke to Gazzetta dello Sport in an exclusive interview, directly from Villach in Austria, where Milan are domiciled with their training camp. He shed light on numerous topics, including the renewal of his contract and Milan’s plans for the 2022/23 campaign.

When quizzed on the Rossoneri’s final matchday Scudetto win over Sassuolo, the center-back revealed the exact moment he knew they were going lift the league title.

“When Kessié scored the third goal against Sassuolo in the final match. We are happy, but we start from 0 points like the others, not from 86. We will have to fight more. We are the champions, everyone will want to beat us”.

He shrugged off indications that Inter and Juventus are stronger favorites for the 2022/23 championship.

“Do the bookmakers say we are behind Inter and Juve? They said it last year too.”

Having crashed out of the UEFA Champions League group stages last season, Tomori believes Milan possess more experience to advance further in the competition.

“I remember the finals in Athens, Manchester and also Istanbul. I knew that this club is special, especially in the Champions League. We are young but we have gained moe experience, we want to imitate the previous squads.”

The defender, who has many times professed his love for the red and black jersey, is prepared to stay put at San Siro for a long time. He didn’t shy away from talks of a contract renewal.

“I want it, I like everything about Milan, even the city, the Champions League night. Now, however, I’m focused on the pitch, we’ll see for things off the pitch.”

Milan will open their Serie A account on August 13th, when they host Udinese at the San Siro.
