Milan Risk Two More Free Agent Departures, PSG and Lazio Lurking

In 2022, Milan might face the same situation they had to endure this summer when Hakan Calhanoglu and Gianluigi Donnarumma left for free. The management is having major trouble coming to terms with Frank Kessié and Alessio Romagnoli. Their contracts are up in nine months.

The new deal of the Ivorian powerhouse is the top priority for the Milan brass. They offered to triple his annual salary, pushing it to €6.5M, La Gazzetta dello Sport reports. The midfielder had publicly announced he would settle things and put pen-to-paper after the Olympics. That has not happened, and the negotiation between the parties has gotten more complicated.

PSG are be behind the turn of events, as they put €8M per year on the table. The entourage of Kessié is using the offer as leverage to up their demands. He would be the highest-paid player at Milan at those figures. The French club will even try to acquire him in January, Footmercato informs.

Moreover, Romagnoli appears highly likely to leave next summer. According to La Repubblica, the defender has already decided to bolt and is in talks to join Lazio. It would be a return to the Italian Capital, as he grew up in the Roma youth academy. Despite that, he is a fan of the Biancocelesti. While there is a mutual interest, he would have to lower his salary, as he is currently making €6M per season. The 26-year-old has become a backup once Milan signed Fikayo Tomori, and the discussions to extend his contract have never had much traction.
