Milan held some talks with the entourage of Marcos Asensio in the recent past. However, he does not seem to be a viable target for the upcoming transfer market window. He might leave Real Madrid since his contract runs out in 2023, but the transfer would be highly expensive.
According to El Nacional, the 26-year-old will ask the Galacticos to depart unless he gets an extension. He currently makes €7M per year and demanded a €1M pay bump. Moreover, his side would request at least €30M to part ways with him.
Asensio would be by far the highest-paid player on the Milan roster at such salary. Their policy is unlikely to change even if the takeover went through. Top directors Paolo Maldini and Frederic Massara are highly likely to be retained, at least for the next transfer market window. The Rossoneri bumped up Theo Hernandez’s wages to €4.5M in their most recent key contract extension. They plan to do the same with Rafael Leao once he sorts out his legal battle with Sporting CP.
The winger has tallied 12 goals and 2 assists in 42 appearances across all competitions this season, even though he has not always been a full-time starter. Milan are indeed looking for an upgrade on the right flank and will seek alternatives given the challenges to onboard Asensio. They are facing competition for one of their other targets too. According to the newspaper Leicester Mercury, the Foxes plot to table a large bid to acquire Charles De Ketelaere from Club Brugge.
