The Milan directors are hard at work trimming the squad through some departures, on top of pursuing high-profile additions.

Milan Set for Quiet Deadline Day Despite Multiple Attempts

Milan are unlikely to complete any major deal on deadline day. Despite their efforts, their search for a new defender will probably come up empty. They also made a late move to add a midfielder, but they could not strike a deal.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Rossoneri were offered Dele Alli, who might leave Tottenham. But they need an exit in the role first. Plus, coming to terms in such a short period of time would not be easy. They were in the mix for Tanguy Ndombélé for a second, but he will go to Olympique Lyonnais.

Directors Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara reached out to Lille to inquire about Renato Sanches, but he is not moving in January. He is the top candidate to replace Franck Kessié next season. Milan are also hoping Sven Botman will stay put so they can go after him in the summer. Borussia Dortmund have joined Newcastle in the race to sign him immediately.

In recent days, the closest center-back has been Malick Thiaw. However, the Rossoneri wanted to invest at most €6M, while Schalke 04 asked for €4M more. The Italian club appears to have given up the chase.

Milan are trying to offload Samu Castillejo on deadline day, but he turned down Valencia and Sampdoria. The Murcielagos are poised to bring in Bryan Gil on loan, Eurosport reports. SPAL requested Daniel Maldini for the next six months. The youngster has better chances to remain on the roster than to leave, though.
