Milan Set Sights on Lille Winger Dubbed ‘Messi of the Balkans’

Milan chief scout Geoffrey Moncada’s shadow operations have brought a new name into light for the Rossoneri management to take into consideration. With heavy attention being given to the Belgian Jupiler Pro League and the French Ligue 1, one can imagine the hoards of talented players that recruitment departments come across.

The name in contention is Lille winger Edon Zhegrova as per Calciomercato. The 23-year-old forward recently struck an absolute peach of a goal to draw his side’s encounter 1-1 against Angers in the top-tier – a goal reminiscent of Mohamed Salah’s efforts from the right flank time and again for Liverpool.

Dubbed as the ‘Messi of the Balkans’, the Kosovo international moved to northern France from Swiss giants FC Basel in the January transfer window for a €7m transfer fee. Lille brought him in to replace now Fiorentina froward Jonathan Ikone and he has done well so far – etching 2 goals in just over 100 minutes of play for the French champions. Zhegrova propelled to the limelight in Basel in the last two years, having spent the previous two on loan there.

His performances back then had already alerted the interest of the Rossoneri, with the club already earmarking him during his time with KRC Genk in the Belgian first division. Having just turned 23, Zhegrova has matured into an important player with perhaps a future in Milan, as the Rossoneri executives in Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara will further evaluate the youngster’s potential.

The Kosovo international is not the only Lille player on Milan’s sights for a summer move, as they have already held talks for both Renato Sanches and Sven Botman.
