Milan Set to Complete Third Summer Signing

These are crucial days for the heavily anticipated transfer of Tottenham Hotspur right-back Emerson Royal to Milan. According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, the Rossoneri could close the deal for the Brazilian defender today.

It’s been one of the longest-running transfer sagas this summer. Milan have been hot on Emerson’s heels since the end of last season. However, negotiations with Tottenham have progressed slowly. After several rejections, Spurs are ready to sanction the 25-year-old’s switch to the Stadio San Siro.

Per Romano, Milan will splash out €15 million outright, plus add-ons, to bring the former Barcelona and Real Betis star to Serie A. That’s a decent deal for the Italian powerhouse, especially considering Tottenham had long been holding out for an eye-watering €25m asking price. But the player’s will has prevailed.

Emerson has been keen on joining Milan since the Serie A giants’ interest emerged in late June. Meanwhile, Spurs have never tried to obstruct the move, though they refused to let him go on unfavorable terms. Weeks of restless talks will soon come to fruition, with Milan closing the gap on Tottenham’s valuation of their out-of-favor wingback.

If everything goes to plan, Emerson should become the new Milan player in the coming days. His arrival will unquestionably influence Davide Calabria’s future in Lombardy. The Rossoneri captain faces a corridor of uncertainty after two unconvincing campaigns.

Emerson will become the third summer signing for Milan. After snapping up Alvaro Morata, the Italians signed Strahinja Pavlovic from RB Salzburg earlier in August.
