Milan Set to Profit Off West Ham Move for Lyon Playmaker

Thanks to a previous clause, Milan are set to profit off a transfer between two foreign clubs, as West Ham are going after Lucas Paquetá. The Irons have lodged a €40M offer for the Lyon playmaker, with advanced negotiations taking place between the two parties before the transfer window closes.

West Ham manager David Moyes confirmed the bid speaking the day before the club’s Europa Conference League qualifying tie against Viborg (via BBC).

“He can play as a number ten, an eight, and he stars as a false-nine for Brazil quite often. I think his pedigree is really good. That doesn’t always guarantee somebody pans out, but you would hope it helps towards him possibly getting better.”

If Lyon accept the offer for Paquetá, Milan will stand to receive a 15 percent fee on his future resale. That amounts to approximately €6M, which the Rossoneri are entitled to. That could increase their budget to onboard a midfielder.

The Brazilian forward spent 18 months of his career at San Siro but never managed to shine regularly, as he ended his stint scoring just once in 44 caps. He was sold to Lyon for €20M back in September 2020. Paquetá has hit the net 21 times and registered 14 assists in 80 appearances for the French outfit since joining from Milan.
