Milan Set to Sign Brazilian Star Despite Denials from England

Despite Ben Jacob’s report that Milan were no longer keen on Emerson Royal, the Tottenham Hotspur defender is close to joining Paulo Fonseca’s team. According to Gianluca Di Marzio (via MilanNews), the Serie A runners-up could complete the Brazilian’s arrival within 48 hours.

Emerson has been on the Rossoneri’s shopping list since the start of the summer. However, long-running talks between Milan and Tottenham have faced numerous hurdles. Spurs’ €20 million valuation of their outcast has been the main roadblock.

But after weeks of negotiations, Milan have seemingly reduced the gap. The Italians were unprepared to offer more than €15m to sign the 25-year-old, banking on the player’s desire to continue his career at the Stadio San Siro. Indeed, Emerson has already agreed on personal terms with Milan.

It’s now up to the club to finalize the final details. Per Di Marzio’s update, the official announcement could come over the weekend. Emerson should become the third summer signing for Milan after Alvaro Morata and Strahinja Pavlovic committed their futures to the Rossoneri.

The former Barcelona right-back should challenge Milan captain Davide Calabria for a place in the starting XI. Emerson fell out of favor at Tottenham following Pedro Porro’s emergence last term. He’s, therefore, keen on regular first-team football.

After completing Emerson’s arrival, Milan will turn to landing a new midfielder and a center-forward to assemble a competitive squad ahead of 2024/25. It’s been a sluggish recruitment campaign for Fonseca’s side, but it’s picking up momentum.
