Milan Set to Sign USMNT Star

Milan and Chelsea are not done doing business this summer following Ruben Loftus-Cheek’s move from Stamford Bridge to Serie A. According to Fabrizio Romano, Christian Pulisic is on the verge of joining the Rossoneri in a deal worth €20 million plus add-ons.

After acquiring Loftus-Cheek’s services, the Italians have taken advantage of their decent relationship with Chelsea to reinforce their squad further. Talks over Pulisic’s switch to San Siro started over a week ago, with Milan identifying the United States international as a long-term replacement for Brahim Diaz.

The Spaniard’s return to his parent club Real Madrid after an impressive three-year stint at Milan has left Stefano Pioli strapped for reliable attacking options. It didn’t take long before the Rossoneri realized they could be filling the gap with one of the best North American players in the past decade.

While Chelsea had offered some resistance to Milan’s initial approach, they changed their stance once Lyon pulled out of the race to sign the USMNT star. The Blues must have known there wasn’t a glimmer of hope that they could recoup a staggering €62m they shelled out to sign Pulisic from Borussia Dortmund in 2019.

Despite joining the club as one of the most highly-rated youngsters in Europe’s top-five leagues, the 24-year-old’s career in London never took off. He was a bit-part player at Chelsea last season. He’ll be looking to revive his career at Milan, perhaps inspired by Fikayo Tomori’s renaissance after swapping Chelsea for San Siro in January 2021.
