Milan Setting Up Departures of Multiple Fringe Players

The Milan directors are hard at work trimming the squad through a few departures, on top of pursuing high-profile additions. Coach Stefano Pioli plan to keep Yacine Adli and Tommaso Pobega, which will create some logjams.

According to Corriere della Sera, Daniel Maldini could be the first one to leave. The Rossoneri refused to loan him out last season, but that should change soon. Verona are eyeing him considering their likely exits in the role, and they are close to an agreement.

Mattia Caldara will not stay at San Siro after an up-and-down spell at Venezia. Spezia have made a strong move to onboard him. They proposed a season-long loan with a €3M option to buy, La Nazione reports.

Samu Castillejo has been on the chopping block for years, and he wishes to return to Spain. He featured just five times last season. After going after him in January, Valencia will try again, and Gennaro Gattuso has signed off on the pursuit, Corriere dello Sport reports. He would be significantly cheaper than their other offensive target Matteo Politano.

Matteo Gabbia could eventually be a late addition to the list of Milan departures but not soon. The Rossoneri bigwigs want to bring in another defender before letting him go. Sampdoria director Daniele Faggiano spoke with SportMediaset.

“We are willing to wait for him, even longer that we would do normally for other players if necessary. There must be a reason if they are considering keeping him. Everybody within the club likes him, not just coach Marco Giampaolo.”
