Milan Prepare for Life After Kessie by Shortlisting Roma Duo

With Franck Kessie heading to Barcelona at the end of the season, Milan face an undersupply of world-class central defensive midfielders to anchor in between the attack and defence. The Ivorian international has already signed a contract deal with the Blaugrana, leaving Milan searching for a replacement in the upcoming transfer market.

According to Corriere di Roma (via MilanNews), there are two names the Rossoneri have set their sights on. Jose Mourinho’s Giallorossi outfit are the subject of transfer interest from Milan, and the Roma duo are Bryan Cristante and Jordan Veretout.

27-year-old Cristante is valued approximately €20-25m by the capital club, whereas Frenchman Veretout is expected to rake in around the same transfer sum. Both their respective contracts expire in the summer of 2024.

Roma have already opened doors for Cristante’s exit. However, Milan are not the only club looking out for him. Unnamed Spanish clubs are said to be keeping close tabs too. Whereas, Veretout has attracted the interest of fellow Milan giants Inter. Olympique de Marseille are also interested in the French midfield ace.

The duo have played a pivotal part in keeping Roma afloat in the run for a top-four finish, but have fallen behind Sergio Oliveira in Mourinho’s pecking order.
