Milan Shortlist Touted Lens Starlet for the Summer

Milan are monitoring a few strikers for the summer when they’ll have to intervene considering the age of their current ones, and one of the names they are keying on is Lois Openda. Sporting director Frederic Massara has been following him since his Roma days, TuttoSport informs.

The forward has switched teams since then. He broke out in Eredivisie with Vitesse, tallying 37 goals and 11 assists in 88 matches. Lens paid €10M to sign him last summer, and he hasn’t disappointed, hitting the net 7 times in 15 appearances.

Milan plot to spend around €20/25M for their next no.9 and hope such sum will be enough to lure Openda. They have tracked Chelsea’s Armando Broja, but the talks never gained much traction. The Blues youngster just suffered an ACL tear and will be on the shelf for months. The Rossoneri are keeping tabs on RB Salzburg’s Noah Okafor, who will be in high demand.

The reigning Scudetto champions are in advanced negotiations to extend Olivier Giroud’s contract for at least another season. Zlatan Ibrahimovic will eventually return from injury, but they can’t lean on him for a consistent role. Divock Origi will be assessed in the second half of the season after a so-so first one.

Our Take on Milan Eyeing Openda

The Rossoneri maybe hoped the former Liverpool super-sub, whom they got for free, could take the baton from their veterans, but he’s not a reliable starter due to his recurring injuries. They are pretty set in other roles, so they can save their next investment for the attack. However, they can ill-afford a faux pas after what happened with Charles De Ketelaere. They might contain the spending this time around.
