Milan Show Initial Interest in Union Berlin Defender

Milan have been busy trying to sign a striker but haven’t forgotten about their needs in other areas and have shortlisted Diogo Leite to strengthen their defense. Union Berlin have set a pretty robust price tag for their center-back, Sky informs.

The Bundesliga side wants no less than €18M. He has been with them since 2022, initially joining on loan and then permanently. They shelled out €8M to acquire him from Porto. He also starred for Sporting Braga earlier in his career.

Milan are primarily looking for a left-footed defender, and Diogo Leite would fit such a profile. They’ll keep tabs on him to see whether they could do the deal at a lower figure. They have missed out on two of their rumored Bosman targets. Tosin Adarabioyo moved to Chelsea, while Lloyd Kenny will sign with Newcastle United, Fabrizio Romano reports.

The Rossoneri lost Simon Kjaer and Mattia Caldara in the back but can still count on four men at the position: Fikayo Tomori, Pierre Kalulu, Malick Thiaw, and Matteo Gabbia. The 25-year-old has logged 80 appearances with Union Berlin, scoring once.

Our Take on Milan and Diogo Leite

They could use a lefty in the back, but they can also just roll with the pieces already at his disposal if Paulo Fonseca is fine with that and sees Kalulu as a center-back and not a fullback. If they were to add, they should target a stud, but it looks like they’ll use most of their resources on a no.9.
