Milan vice-captain has thrown his future at the club into doubt with a cryptic message ahead of the 2024 UEFA European Championship. Asked point-blank whether he’d stay at San Siro beyond the summer, the France international refused to provide a clear answer.
“I’m focused on the European Championship. Whether I’ll stay at AC Milan or not, we’ll see later,” Hernandez said in an interview, as relayed by Gazzetta dello Sport.
Recently linked with a move back to his former club, Real Madrid, the Milan ace left the door open for a potential reunion with the Santiago Bernabeu crowd.
“A return to Spain? At the moment, I’m not thinking about it yet.” Hernandez claimed.
The 26-year-old swapped Real Madrid for Milan in 2019. The Rossoneri paid the Spaniards around €20 million, which later proved a bargain fee. Hernandez has grown to become one of the best left-backs in the world.
His scintillating form in Serie A has established him as a permanent first-team fixture for France. As one of the most dominant defenders in European football, Hernandez can choose between several high-profile destinations should he decide to sever ties with Milan.
In addition to Real Madrid, Bundesliga heavyweights Bayern Munich are interested in the Milan star. But the Germans would only make an attempt to prise him out of San Siro if Alphonso Davies leaves the Allianz Arena.
