Milan Star Has Sky-High Release Clause in His Contract

Rafael Leao carried Milan on his back in the final matches, playing up to his full potential. He was highly instrumental in the final winning streak that propelled the Rossoneri to the title. He scored three goals and dished five assists in the last six fixtures, where he was uncatchable in space.

The club has been in talks to extend his contract for a a few months. However, his legal battle with Sporting CP obstructed the negotiation. He has two more years left on his deal, and he is due for a pay bump. His strong showings have drawn the attention of top clubs. Starting with PSG, who will soon hire director Luis Campos to replace Leonardo, Gianluca Di Marzio informs. The executive convinced him to force his way out of Portugal to join Lille back in the day and then sold him a year later.

Milan will probably have to increase their previous offer to come to terms with Leao and his agent Jorge Mendes. It remains to be seen whether the French champions will indeed make a strong attempt since Kylian Mbappé elected to stay. They were reportedly willing to offer €70M for the starlet.

The Rossoneri have no intentions of partying ways with the 22-year-old. However, there is a €150M clause in his contract, which Leao and Milan agreed upon when he first joined, Calciomercato reports. The rumors about Real Madrid have no substance at this stage, Fabrizio Romano informs.

According to Record, the forward will have to pay €16.5M to Sporting CP via a monthly portion of his salary. While the ruling could allow the team to reprise the conversations to prolong his contract, the pending takeover by RedBird Capital throws a wrench into the plan, which may not come to fruition any time soon.
