Milan Star Left Out of Trofeo Berlusconi, Juventus Transfer Imminent

Milan manager Paulo Fonseca left Pierre Kalulu of the team for Tuesday night’s Trofeo Berlusconi clash against Monza. According to Fabrizio Romano, the Frenchman’s omission has fueled speculation over his imminent transfer to Juventus.

Kalulu has emerged as the last resort for Juventus to address their defensive shortcomings after failing to sign Riccardo Calafiori and Jean-Clair Todibo. Talks between Milan and the Bianconeri have picked up pace in recent days. They’re trying to broker a loan switch for the versatile defender with an obligation to buy.

Milan would receive a handsome €3.5 million loan fee, with a mandatory buyout option set at €14m in a year. The deal should also include several bonuses and a sell-on clause in Milan’s favor. Kalulu has already agreed on personal terms with Juventus. He will reportedly take home a decent-looking €2.5m-a-year salary.

Negotiations are on the home stretch, with Milan ready to offload Kalalu following an injury-plagued 2023/24 season. It’s a win-win deal for all parties involved. The Rossoneri will remove Kalulu’s wages off their books and earn a decent figure from his departure, which they can reinvest in the market.

Meanwhile, Thiago Motta will finally land a new defender. As for Kalulu, he’ll likely have more first-team opportunities than Juventus now that Milan have added Emerson Royal to their squad. The Brazilian officially became the new Rossoneri player on Tuesday.

Tuesday’s omission was the latest confirmation of the 24-year-old’s immediate move to Turin after four years at the Stadio San Siro.
