Milan Star Tonali Close to Transferring to Newcastle

Sandro Tonali is on the brink of leaving Milan to join Newcastle. The two clubs are nearing an agreement on the giant fee, while the midfielder has accepted the destination, and he’ll get a massive pay hike. The Italian side requested a larger bid, but there’s plenty of momentum toward a positive outcome, Sky informs.

The Magpies tendered €70M plus €5M bonuses in their latest proposal, while the Rossoneri asked for €5M more to give their final okay. The counterpart is mulling whether to get there by upping the offer or through richer add-ons. All the components are in constant communication to get the deal across the finish line.

Tonali, who currently earns €2.5M, will reportedly ink a six-year contract with €8M wages plus €2M bonuses. He signed off on the move after Milan signaled they were open to considering and eventually agreeing to the offer.

The Brescia youth product has spent the last three seasons at San Siro. He raked up 130 appearances and logged 7 goals and 13 assists. He was a key contributor in 2021/2022’s Scudetto run.

Our Take on Tonali to Newcastle

The figures would make most teams and players wobble, but it’s disheartening that there’s no more room for stalwarts and sentiments in today’s football. It’s all business, and it’s particularly baffling as the Rossoneri have healthy balance sheets, as they are expected to break even this season, unlike, for instance, Inter, Juventus, and Roma. It’s safe to say the new American-only brass was quick to show their cold-heartedness and numbers-driven approach. This sale would have never happened with Paolo Maldini still at the helm.
