Milan Start Eyeing Goalies While Maignan Talks Stall

Milan want Mike Maignan to stay, but the negotiation to extend his contract isn’t going well. The management has decided to delay the topic since they couldn’t find much common ground with his agents in the previous rounds of conversations, TuttoSport informs.

The Rossoneri would like his salary to be the same as Rafael Leao, €5M plus €2M in easily achievable bonuses, but the request exceeds that.

Milan value Maignan €70/80M and might listen to the offers next summer even though his contract expires in 2026. They’d re-use part of the income for a new goalie. They have shown interest in Giorgi Mamardashvili, who’s caught the attention of a few Serie A sides thanks to his performances with Valencia. The Rossoneri signed Yunus Musah from them last summer. The shot-stopper has a €40/50M price tag.

There’d also be cheaper candidates into their crosshairs, for instance, Monza’s Michele Di Gregorio or Athletico Paranaense’s Bento. Inter, Chelsea, Wolverhampton, and Nottingham Forest are also after the Brazilian specialist.

Our Take on Milan and Maignan

Things might be starting to get eerie on the renewal if they are beginning to examine other goalies. In reality, there’s never been much traction about it. The Rossoneri could still technically wait a year and see if the relationship with his camp improves. Instead, if they wished to get full value from his sale, they’d pull the trigger in the upcoming window.
