Milan Stepping Up Pursuit of Japhet Tanganga

After agreeing on a transfer fee for Charles De Ketelaere with Club Brugge, Milan are moving on to other targets to strengthen their squad. According to Calciomercato, the reigning Serie A champions are ready to accelerate their pursuit of Tottenham Hotspur’s Japhet Tanganga.

As per several reports from England, Tanganga has already come to an ‘agreement in principle’ over his switch to Serie A. But Milan will not have to convince Tottenham to approve the deal. Spurs could be inclined to let their youth academy graduate go, but he won’t come cheap.

The arrivals of Clement Lenglet and Djed Spence could derail Tanganga’s first-team prospects next term. The versatile defender clocked up 19 appearances for the London-based heavyweights last season, with 11 coming in the Premier League.

Capable of playing in the heart of the backline and at the right-back, the 23-year-old defender could be a valuable addition for Milan. Paolo Maldini & Co are aware of the youngster’s potential and are hopeful of pairing him up with his compatriot Fikayo Tomori.

Tanganga has been on the Italians’ shortlist for quite a while. Yet, negotiations with Tottenham have never picked up momentum. That could change in the coming days as Milan are running out of time to give Stefano Pioli strength in depth.

Milan already met Spurs chief Fabio Paratici last week to discuss Tanganga’s move to Serie A. Now that the Rossoneri have agreed on a deal for De Ketelaere, they can turn their undivided attention towards the English starlet.
