Milan Still in Contention to Sign Marco Asensio

Reak Madrid outcast Marco Asensio could join Milan this summer despite Liverpool’s interest in acquiring the Spaniard’s services. Indeed, TUTTOmercatoWEB has identified the winger as a dream signing for the Rossoneri

Los Blancos boss Carlo Ancelotti has deemed Asensio surplus to requirements. The reigning Champions League holders are ready to cut the 26-year-old loose in the summer. The left-footed forward has just over a year left on his current deal in La Liga.

Since Madrid are not inclined to offer him a new deal, a summer break-up looks on the cards. Several sides are interested in handing him an escape route from Spain.

In addition to Milan, Liverpool are keen to lure Asensio away from the Santiago Bernabeu. However, having splashed out a high figure on landing Darwin Nunez from Benfica, they could pass on the opportunity to hire the Madrid misfit.

Therefore, Milan could find themselves in a pole position to sign Asensio on a cut-price deal this summer. The Rossoneri are also working on acquiring the services of Hakim Ziyech from Chelsea. It seems the Moroccan star has his heart set on switching to San Siro.

Ziyech’s consent could facilitate his move to Serie A. But it may not necessarily influence the Italians’ pursuit of Asensio. The Spaniard made 42 appearances for Ancelotti’s side last season, clocking up 12 goals and two assists.

Not bad for the player, who was forced to come off the bench for most of the season. Despite his limited playing time in Madrid, Asensio could be a massive coup for Milan. There’s no doubt he would be an immediate upgrade on Alexis Saelemaekers and Junior Messias.

But much will depend on Madrid’s demands. Milan are in a precarious financial situation. So they will have to convince their Spanish counterparts to give up Asensio on favourable terms.
