Milan superstar striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic admits he has no intention of hanging up his boots yet despite entering the fifth decade. During an interview with French newspaper L’Equipe (via Calciomercato), the Swedish scoring machine has played down talks linking him with a summer retirement.
Ibrahimovic turned 40 in October, but he feels he still has enough gas left in the tank as he intends to extend his stay at the San Siro beyond the summer. The former Inter and Juventus forward turned Milan’s fortunes around since returning to the club in January 2020, helping bring the Rossoneri back to the top of Italian football.
Once again, Ibra has defied his ages, establishing himself as a true leader of Stefano Pioli’s high-flyers. He has rolled back the years, growing into one of the headline performers in Serie A despite being in the autumn of his playing career. And he has every intention to continue delivering the goods for Milan.
“Normally, at 40, you are in your house, you light a cigar and look back with satisfaction on your career. But I’m not ready to smoke a cigar yet,” he said.
Ibrahimovic has tallied eight goals and two assists in 14 Serie A appearances for Milan this season. Indeed, he tops the club’s scoring charts in league action and should be spearheading the attacking when the Rossoneri take on Juventus in Sunday’s mouth-watering clash at the San Siro.
The Swede’s contract at Milan runs out at the end of the season. However, given his performances week in, week out, coupled with his importance to Pioli’s set-up, the Italian heavyweights are likely to offer him new terms in the coming months. As things stand, we have not seen everything from Ibrahimovic yet.
That could be particularly pleasing for the Milan faithful, considering Ibra’s prominent role in the club’s resurgence over the past couple of years.
