Milan Take an Interest in Olympique Lyonnais Midfielder

Milan are scouring the market for a central midfielder and added Olympique Lyonnais’ Maxence Caqueret to their shortlist. The Rossoneri will lose Franck Kessié, who will join Barcelona on a free transfer. They are in talks to sign Renato Sanches from Lille. The two clubs are on the same page about his evaluation. However, he is asking for a very rich contract, Calciomercato reports.

Therefore, the Italian club is seeking possible alternatives to the Portuguese international. According to RMC Sport, Caqueret is biding time in the extension talks with Les Gones because he has received an offer from Milan. His current deal runs out in 2023, and his team offered to quadruple his wages. On the other hand, he aspires to play in Champions League next season. Although, it is a long shot for them given the gap in the standings.

The 22-year-old, who is a product of their youth academy, has earned a consistent role with the first team in the last seasons. He has featured in 66 Ligue 1 matches, setting up two teammates. He has 12 caps with France U-21.

The Rossoneri already signed Pierre Kalulu from Olympique Lyonnais for cheap a couple of years ago, with fantastic returns. Milan have become a destination for French players in recent times, and Caqueret could be the latest addition. They already have Olivier Giroud, Mike Maignan, Theo Hernandez, Fodé Ballo-Touré, and Tiemoué Bakayoko on the roster. The young midfielder boasts a complete skill set and would fit the pivot position in Stefano Pioli’s scheme.
