Theo Hernandez ran the show at Stadio San Siro on Friday evening as Milan trounced out-of-sorts Lecce 3-0 to close the gap on Serie A leaders Torino. The French left-back delivered a match-winning performance, tallying a goal and an assist in Rossoneri’s clear-cut triumph.
It took Milan 39 minutes to break the deadlock, with Hernandez whipping the ball into the box from the resulting free-kick to serve Alvaro Morata on the near post. The Spaniard still had much to do, yet he directed his towering header beyond Wladimiro Falcone’s reach to open the scoring.
Lecce barely recovered from the shock when Hernandez hammered a nail in their coffin with a thunderous finish from an acute angle to make it 2-0. Milan went 3-0 up before halftime through Christian Pulisic’s fifth consecutive goal in all competitions, sealing Lecce’s fate in the first half.
Hernandez and Rafael Leao were a nightmare for the visitors as the Milan talisman admits the famous ‘Theao‘ is back.
“Yes, it’s finally back. In the first few games, we weren’t 100% mentally and physically. Now I’m feeling good, which is the most important thing,” the Milan superstar told DAZN, as reported by MilanNews. “The assist is his, then I scored an even more beautiful goal (laughs). I’m happy.“
Milan cannot afford much time to celebrate as they head to Germany to take on Bayer Leverkusen next week.
“We didn’t have the certainties we wanted against Liverpool. Now we have a very tough match ahead of us, we have to recover well and we have to train well to get to that very important match,” Hernandez said.
