Milan Target Six Midfielders to Reinforce Stefano Pioli’s Squad

Milan are in the market for two midfielders to strengthen the club bid of challenging for the Serie A title next season. As reported by Calciomercato, the Rossoneri are targeting six players to provide cover to the omnipresent duo Ismael Bennacer and Franck Kessie.

It is understood that Milan are trying to find an alternative for Bennacer and Kessie, who will be away for the upcoming AFCON 2022. Sandro Tonali has failed to live up to expectations since arriving from Brescia last summer and is expected to play second fiddle to Stefano Pioli’s preferred double-pivot.

But with the Champions League luster back on the table, Pioli needs to add a few new faces to improve quality and depth. Paolo Maldini reportedly keeps Bologna’s Jerdy Schouten in high esteem following an impressive season at Renato Dall’Ara. The 24-year-old’s price tag is set at €15million, which is a reasonable price given the resale value he would offer.

Another Rossoblu star is on Milan’s radar. Mattias Svanberg, who earned a place in Sweden’s Euro 2020 squad, has been nothing short of outstanding in Serie A so far.

Another name on Milan’s shortlist is Razvan Marin, but there’s a genuine feeling that Cagliari could price the Rossoneri out of the deal. The 25-year-old played a starring role as the Sardinians avoided relegation with a string of remarkable displays down the final stretch of 2020-21.

In Ligue 1, the Italian side’s scouts have identified two box-to-box midfielders as potential additions to Pioli’s side. Monaco’s Youssouf Fofana and Saint-Etienne’s Mahdi Camara are the profiles Maldini and co are entertaining at the moment.

The remaining hypothesis is retaining the highly-rated Tommaso Pobega, who returned to base after an inspirational season-long loan at Spezia. The 21-year-old contributed to nine goals in 20 Serie A appearances, netting six and chipping in with three assists.
