Milan to Face Liverpool without Ibra, Pioli: “We Can Prove We Belong”

Stefano Pioli discussed the Liverpool game with the press today: “There is no time for emotions because we have been very busy preparing for the tilt. We must have enthusiasm because Milan earned this stage through hard work, teamplay, and courage. And that is what we will try to do tomorrow as well.”

Zlatan Ibrahimovic will miss the bout due to a sore Achilles tendon: “He was banged up after the last game. We expected him to feel better after some rest, but that was not the case. He is still in pain, so it is better not to risk him considering the upcoming matches. He would have started tomorrow. We all want to see a Milan with him. He will be back soon. Absences are part of the game.”

“Olivier Giroud lost something from the physical standpoint due to COVID, and two days are not enough to recover fully. He will play tomorrow, but not the whole game. I will pick between him and Ante Rebic from the start. They are both ready. Sandro Tonali is dealing with a fever, but he will travel with the team, and we hope he will be available tomorrow.”

“I like English football a lot, and we studied Liverpool hard. The group is very challenging, and there will be no easy matches. All the opponents have played in Europe for a long time. Milan have not, but we want to start writing a new page of our history tomorrow.”

“We have grown a lot compared to last season. We used every experience, also the negative ones, to improve. I think that this start of the season proves that Milan understood how to properly managed matches. Now the bar gets raised, and it is a major opportunity to prove that we belong.”
