Milan to Sit Tight in January Transfer Window

Milan won’t be making any rush calls in the January transfer window amid a growing injury crisis at the San Siro. According to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, the Rossoneri will rely on the expected return of injured duo Ante Rebic and Rafael Leao instead of bringing in new players.

Di Marzio is adamant Milan won’t pursue attacking reinforcements in the upcoming transfer window. Per the renowned journalist, Rebic and Leao are edging closer towards returning to the fold following a long-term absence. That should settle Stefano Pioli’s side well in the second half of the season after a rough December.

Rebic, who has developed into an indispensable starter under Pioli, has been out of action since picking up a muscle injury in early November. The 28-year-old forward last featured for Milan in a 1-1 derby draw with Inter on November 7.

Meanwhile, Leao has struggled with a biceps issue in December. A lack of full fitness has allowed him to play just 45 minutes in Serie A this month. That’s a bit pitty, considering the Portuguese starlet hit his stride in the early exchanges, growing into one of Milan’s most influential attacking figures alongside Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

However, the Rossoneri have struggled with inconsistent attacking performances in the duo’s absence, prompting talks of Milan’s potential intervention in the transfer market. Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara are keeping their eyes peeled for value, hopeful of sealing a cost-effective piece of business this winter.

Wantaway Porto winger Jesus Corona has emerged as a potential candidate to complement Milan’s attacking department. But, with Rebic and Leao set to return to action in January, the current Serie A runners-up may well turn their attention to signing a new defender in the wake of Simon Kjaer’s season-ending injury.
