Milan still want to add a young striker on top of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Olivier Giroud. They have been focusing on other roles after missing out on Kaio Jorge. But their plans have not changed, and they have taken an interest in Pietro Pellegri, Sky Sport reports.
The Rossoneri opened talks with Monaco to assess the feasibility of the deal. The contract of the 20-year-old expires in a year. Milan are eyeing a loan move, so he would have to extend it first. According to the outlet, the Meneghini were after him before he moved to the Principality back in the day.
Pellegri tied a record when he debuted in Serie A in 2016 at age 15. It was beaten only by few days by Bologna’s Wisdom Amey last season. He was the third-youngest player to ever score in the Italian League in 2017, trailing Amedeo Amedei and Milan legend Gianni Rivera. Instead, his first brace was the most precious in League’s history.
Monaco signed him for €31M in 2018, but multiple injuries derailed his young career. Sports-hernia plagued him early on, and then picked up continuous muscular problems. He managed to play in just 23 matches, hitting the net twice, in the past 3 years. He had some continuity only last season, where he notched 16 appearances. Milan are looking for a cheap option to round out the frontline. Therefore, they are looking to bring him in on a temporary spell, at most with an option to buy attached to it.
