Milan Trim the Squad, Slated to Part Ways with Two Fringe Contributors

After a slew of additions, Milan are now looking to reduce the roster. They will soon bid farewell to Jens-Petter Hauge and Mattia Caldara. The winger is headed to Eintracht-Frankfurt, while the center-back will play at Venezia in the upcoming season.

Die Adler have long pursued the attacker and edged out Wolfsburg in the race to sign the attacker. They upped their previous bid and will give Milan €12M, Gianluca Di Marzio reports. Hauge joined the Rossoneri after facing them in the Europa League play-offs with Bodo/Glimt. He mostly appeared off the bench following the €5M move. He featured in 24 matches, hitting the net 5 times. They will likely keep Rafael Leao and Samu Castillejo unless they acquire a couple more offensive pieces.

Caldara has been available for the entire summer and will soon transfer to the newly-promoted club. According to Sky, Milan and Venezia reached agreement on a season-long loan with a €4M option to buy in 2022.

The 27-year-old defender played just nine matches last season at Atalanta, partly due to a lingering knee problem. The Bergamaschi elected not to keep him past the temporary spell. At Venezia, he will have the chance to be a regular starter since he is their first addition in the role. Caldara was acquired from Juventus for €36.4M in 2018 in the deal that saw Gonzalo Higuain and Leonardo Bonucci switch teams. Major injuries plagued his stay at Milan, as he suffered a partial Achilles tendon rupture and an ACL tear in the span of six months.
