Adli was one of the worst players on the field as Monza thumped Milan 4-2 last Sunday. However, the deep-lying midfielder returned to his usual best tonight, delivering a convincing showing, with Rossoneri outperforming Gian Piero Gasperini’s side in the middle of the park.
Alongside Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Ismael Bennacer, Adli bossed the midfield, ensuring Milan had an eye-catching 68% possession against one of the best technical teams in Serie A. Unfortunately, it counted for nothing at the final whistle.
Rafael Leao’s stunning opener went in vain as Olivier Giroud brought Emil Holm to the ground late in the first half. After double-checking the incident with VAR, referee Daniele Orsato sent Teun Koopmeiners to the spot. The Dutchman showed no mercy to help Atalanta grab a point.
While a draw felt unjust, Adli maintains Milan must dust themselves up and overcome a rough patch.
“We have to keep moving forward, there are moments like this in the season. I don’t know if there was a penalty today, I think so if you go and look at it at VAR. We pay for every mistake, but we have to push and move forward,” the Milan ace said, as relayed by MilanNews.
