Olivier Giroud has been handed a two-game disqualification following his red card against Lecce. The Frenchman protested too harshly while clamoring for a late free kick. He’ll have to sit the fixtures against Fiorentina and Frosinone for insulting the referee.
Milan don’t plan to appeal the decision since it’s standard relative to previous cases, Corriere della Sera reports. Some outlets suggested the possibility of a four-match ban following a recent revision of the bylaws. But that wasn’t the case.
The Rossoneri will have to make do without Giroud in the next two domestic matches, while he’ll be eligible to play against Borussia Dortmund in the fourth Champions League tilt, which is sandwiched in between.
Substituting for the World Cup champions has been an issue for Milan this season. Luka Jovic hasn’t lived up to the task, and Noah Okafor has looked more at ease on the flanks. That’s probably where he’ll feature with Rafael Leao missing because of injury.
The veteran has played in all but one game thus far, a 3-1 away win versus Cagliari, where the Swiss talent relieved him and had his best showing thus far. He came off the bench once, against Genoa, with the former Fiorentina marksman leading the line from the start.

It was a silly unforced error for somebody with his experience. There’s no alternative to hoping the backups, Samuel Chukwueze and Okafor in particular since they were signed for this very purpose, step up.
