Milan Winger Urges United States to Prove Their Worth at Copa America

Milan winger Christian Pulisic has urged the United States to ‘prove themselves’ at Copa America 2024 ahead of their tournament opener against Bolivia. The 25-year-old will captain his side in the first US-held event since 2016 as they bid to erase painful memories of a disappointing group-stage exit at the 2022 World Cup.

Pulisic was in superb form for Milan last term. He hit double-digits in goals and assists during his first season at San Siro, racking up 15 and 11 across 50 appearances. The versatile forward will hope to transfer his sublime club exploits to the international stage when the United States encounter Bolivia at Texas’ AT&T Stadium on Sunday night.

Speaking to the press in the build-up to the game, Pulisic praised the USMNT’s growth since returning from Qatar.

Now it’s time to prove ourselves. I think we’ve learned a lot. We’ve put some good performances in the World Cup,” the Milan star said, as quoted by Goal. “We’ve shown people that this team can play. And now it’s about not just putting in those performances but finding a way to get results in the biggest matches. That’s the next step for us.

Pulisic scored a stunning free-kick to inspire the United States to a 1-1 draw against Brazil in their final warm-up fixture. But his Milan teammate Yunus Musah wasn’t up to the task in that match and will need to improve if Gregg Berhalter’s men are to make it out of the Copa America group stages for the third time in their fifth tournament appearance.
