Former Fulham talisman Aleksandar Mitrovic has confessed he tried to convince Juventus superstar Dusan Vlahovic to join him in the Saudi Pro League. In an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport (page 23), the prolific striker admitted he talked to his international colleague about the prospect of a reunion in the Middle East.
Mitrovic and Vlahovic helped Serbia to a 3-1 win over Lithuania in their final Euro 2024 qualifier in September. But before the gathering in Belgrade, the former decided to end his long-term association with Fulham and embrace the riches of Saudi Arabia. He hoped to persuade the Juventus frontman to leave Europe with him.
“I’d also recommend it to Dusan, but then it depends on what he wants. In the national team, we talked about Saudi Arabia. He asked me how am I getting on,” Mitrovic said.
However, the 29-year-old offered some respite to Juventus fans, admitting Vlahovic is ‘happy’ with his current life at the Allianz Stadium.
“However, if I have to be honest, I see he’s happy and focused on Juve. He is happy to be part of one of the strongest clubs in Europe.“
Mitrovic’s statement comes in the follow-up of recent speculation about Vlahovic’s desire to extend his contract at Juventus. After a turbulent summer, the 23-year-old has stayed in Turin and enjoyed a stellar start to the new campaign.
Vlahovic scored in the opening two Serie A rounds before wasting a penalty in a 2-0 win at Empoli last time out. He should be at the heart of Massimiliano Allegri’s attack when Juventus take on Lazio on Saturday evening.
