MLS Franchise Contemplating Audacious Move for Juventus Midfielder

Juventus might have failed to insert Weston McKennie as a makeweight in a deal to sign Aston Villa talisman Douglas Luiz. But they could still offload their outcast in the coming months to avoid losing him on a free transfer next year.

Recent reports in the United States have linked the Juventus midfielder with a shocking return to his homeland. Major League Soccer franchise FC Cincinnati are reportedly contemplating a substantial $15 million bid to tempt the Bianconeri to ship the USMNT star across the Atlantic.

McKennie was supposed to be an instrumental part of the deal to bring Luiz to Juventus. However, he couldn’t find an agreement with Aston Villa over personal terms, resulting in Thiago Motta’s side replacing him with Enzo Barrenechea as a counterpart in their offer.

That will not deter Juventus from trying to find McKennie a new home this summer.

Despite amassing 38 appearances last season, McKennie is no longer indispensable for Juventus. With his contract expiring in 12 months, the Italians are desperate to sort out his future on short notice. Cincinnati could come to the former Schalke man’s rescue.

McKennie came through the ranks at the FC Dallas academy, but he never played in MLS. He turned down a senior contract in his hometown to link up with Schalke in 2016. After four impressive years in the Bundesliga, he switched to Juventus in 2020.

However, his career in Turin is coming to a close. Juventus would probably accept Cincinnati’s proposal, though convincing McKennie to return to the States could prove problematic.
