Modric Points Finger at Italian Referee Orsato: “He’s a Disaster”

Argentina cruised to the final of the 2022 FIFA World Cup with a 3-0 win over Croatia at the Lusail Stadium. Hrvatska captain Luka Modric was less than impressed by the officiating of Italian referee Daniele Orsato, who awarded the Albiceleste a game-changing penalty in the first half.

Speaking after the match (via Eurosport), Modric labelled Orsato a disaster for his refereeing during the high-profile encounter.

“Argentina were a fair winner of the match, they were better, they deserved to win, but these things have to be mentioned, I generally don’t do them, but today they have to be done.”

Modric went on to aim shots at Orsato, who was backed by an Italian delegation.

”I don’t like to talk about referees, but this is one of the worst. I don’t have a good memory of him, he’s a disaster. For me it wasn’t a penalty. Despite this, I don’t want to detract from Argentina. The penalty killed us. We have to recover for third place and win that match.”

Argentina will go on to face either France or Morocco in the final on 18th December, Sunday. Whereas, Modric and Croatia await one of the two semi-finalists for the third-place play-off.
