Montpellier Ace Wahi Distances Himself from Milan

Milan’s search for a striker has taken them across Europe, and Montpellier center-forward Elye Wahi is one of the club’s targets. However, the 20-year-old talent is reportedly disinterested in moving to the Rossoneri after expressing his admiration for Ligue 1.

As per L’Equipe (via Tuttomercatoweb), Milan are serious about Wahi, as the forward continues to garner attention from top clubs across Europe, including fellow Ligue 1 rivals AS Monaco and reigning Europa League champions Eintracht Frankfurt. The latter two clubs have reportedly had initial contacts with the player’s entourage, but it doesn’t seem likely he will move anytime soon.

Even Real Madrid have kept close tabs on Wahi this season, potentially aiming him as a replacement for aging Karim Benzema.

In a statement to local Montpellier radio station France Blue Herault, Wahi disclosed where he sees himself in the future, albeit not ruling out a transfer.

“My favorite championship? Ligue 1. Why not? I have always said that I don’t want to skip any steps and I want to go forward little by little. We’ll see the possible offers, but at the moment I’m fine in Montpellier. We’ll see where the wind takes me.”

Wahi has performed prolifically in the French top flight this season, scoring 13 goals and registering 5 assists in 29 appearances for Montpellier.
