Monza Interested in Bringing In Inter Veteran Striker

Monza are big-game hunting for their attack and have set their sights on Edin Dzeko. The Brianzoli wants to sign a top contributor and have multiple targets in their crosshairs. Andrea Belotti turned them down a couple of weeks ago, but he is still a free agent. CEO Adriano Galliani publicly mentioned Mauro Icardi as a possibility, although not a likely one.

As per TuttoSport (via Goal), the Inter forward would have to agree to a sizeable pay cut to join. The director already tried to sign him when he was at Milan in 2009. However, his transfer from Wolfsburg fell through at the 11th hour. The Nerazzurri would welcome his departure to make room for Paulo Dybala.

A further problem for Monza comes from the fact that Dzeko is reluctant to leave, La Gazzetta dello Sport reports. He strongly pushed for the move last summer after multiple unsuccessful attempts in previous windows. He believes he will have his chances despite the heightened competition.

The Brianzoli are also after Andrea Pinamonti, but he seems to prefer Atalanta. They want a high-profile name to pair up with starlet Dany Mota. In the meantime, they have struck a deal with La Dea to sign Matteo Pessina on a €3M loan with a €12M conditioned obligation to buy, SportMediaset reports.

Our Take on Monza Eyeing Dzeko

The Lombardy team is not your regular Serie A rookie even though they are indeed making their debut in the top league, thanks to connections of Galliani and Silvio Berlusconi’s coffers. Plus, its location is favorable, as it is near Milan, a primary destination for footballers. Chances are they will indeed find a guy looking for a comfortable spot to either revive his career or spend the twilight of it.
