Reinvigorated Serie A giants Juventus have been the most active Italian club in the transfer market on the incoming front. But they’re equally attentive to trimming down their blunted squad, with numerous fringe players already placed on the chopping block.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport via JuventusNews24, Monza CEO Adriano Galliani has set his sights on the unwanted Juventus duo Mattia De Sciglio and Wojciech Szczesny. Both players are out of Thiago Motta’s project and effectively up for sale.
Despite proving himself as a faithful servant over the past seven years, Szczesny’s career at Juventus is about to expire. The arrival of Michele Di Gregorio from none other than Monza has signaled the end of the 34-year-old’s time at the Allianz Stadium.
Luckily, the Polish goalkeeper may not have to look far away for a new home. Monza could offer him an escape route from Juventus and guarantee a starting berth at the Brianteo Stadium. After all, he’s been one of the most dependable stoppers in Serie A for almost a decade
While Juventus would likely agree to let Szczesny leave on favorable terms, Monza cannot handle the keeper’s wages. He earns around €6 million a year in Turin. Therefore, he’d probably have to take a significant pay cut to facilitate his move to Brianteo.
Things are not that simple for De Sciglio. Recurring injury problems have plagued the last two years of his career at Juventus. And he’s now found himself surplus to requirements. Unfortunately, a lengthy spell on the sidelines has taken its toll. Only a handful of teams would bet on him.
Monza is among them. In De Sciglio’s case, salary wouldn’t be a problem. But the only thing that matters is whether the ex-Milan defender would be willing to swap Juventus for Alessandro Nesta’s side.
