Atalanta goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini is becoming a seasoned journeyman, with the 29-year-old now set to join Monza on another loan. According to Gianluca Di Marzio, the Biancorossi would pour a mere €1 million into La Dea’s bank accounts to take Gollini on a season-long loan, which includes a buyout option.
If Gollini impresses at the Brianteo Stadium, Monza could sign him permanently for only €3m. With all parties eager to get the deal over the line quickly, the keeper’s move could materialize in the coming days. It would be a critical addition for Alessandro Nesta’s side after losing Michele Di Gregorio to Juventus earlier in the summer.
Di Gregorio’s exit has left a significant void, considering he was superb for Monza in both previous top-flight seasons for the Lombard minnows. Adriano Galliani’s first idea to replace the Italian shot-stopper was Juventus veteran Wojciech Szczesny. Yet, Monza couldn’t meet the Polish star’s wage request, resulting in Gollini’s imminent arrival.
Opting for Gollini is a massive gamble. Despite his undeniable potential, the former Manchester United academy member has barely featured between the sticks across the last three seasons. Atalanta loaned him out to Tottenham Hotspur in 2021/22, but he failed to make a single Premier League appearance.
After another abysmal loan spell at Fiorentina, Gollini tried to revive his career at Napoli last term. Yet, it didn’t work well. Despite his long-standing struggles, Monza will give the experienced goalkeeper the benefit of the doubt. Galliani is ready to announce another signing after finding a deal with Milan for Daniel Maldini.
