Monza Talisman Reveals Milan Dream but Move Makes No Sense

Monza star Andrea Colpani has admitted he has been a Milan fan since childhood amid talks of his potential summer exit. In an interview with SportWeek, as cited by Calciomercato.com, he opened up on his long-term affection for Rossoneri.

If I support Milan? As a child, I did, yes,” Colpani said after receiving his maiden international call-up. Italy coach Luciano Spalletti has included Monza’s star in the making in his squad for pivotal Euro 2024 qualifiers against North Macedonia and Ukraine.

Colpani stayed on the bench as Gli Azzurri thumped the North Macedonians 5-2 on Friday to assume control of their qualification bid. Given the significance of the upcoming second-place six-pointer against Ukraine, it’s more likely the boyhood Milan supporter will have to wait for his Italy debut.

In the meantime, his club career is progressing swimmingly. With six goals and one assist, Colpani is third in the Serie A scoring charts between Inter captain Lautaro Martinez and Milan veteran Olivier Giroud. His last goal rescued a point for Monza in a 1-1 draw against Torino before the international break.

But while Colpani continues to make headlines for his noticeable rise, a move to Milan would make little sense. Adriano Galliani’s previous attachments would perhaps facilitate the operation. Yet, Stefano Pioli’s men seem well-stacked in the midfield and forward areas.

For a player of Colpani’s age and ambition, accepting a benchwarmer role would be a career suicide. Meanwhile, Milan invested heavily over the summer to strengthen advanced positions over the summer. On that basis, it’s difficult to imagine the standout Monza performer fulfilling his childhood dream.
