Monza Transfer Market Plans Include Inter and Napoli Rejects

Monza already secured two new starters in Alessio Cragno and Andrea Ranocchia and continue to go big-game hunting in the transfer market. The Brianzoli are openly chasing after Stefano Sensi, Matteo Pessina and Andrea Pinamonti.

Veteran director Adriano Galliani weighed in to the press (via Calciomercato).

“I talked with Sensi yesterday. I gave him a couple of days to decide. We are hopeful he will join. Pinamonti is a very good player, but he is extremely expensive. We will see. The same goes for Pessina. I would like to clarify that I never stated that it would be impossible to sign Mauro Icardi. However, footballers of his caliber have costs and wages that are out of our reach.”

According to the publication, the Inter midfielder is leaning towards accepting a straight loan. As per Sky, Monza are engaged in a transfer market battle with Torino and Salernitana for Joao Pedro. Instead, Atalanta have forcefully joined the race to acquire Pinamonti. The Biancorossi have earmarked Andrea Petagna as a potential fallback for their attack. Moreover, they would be ready to make a strong offer if Juventus decided to make Nicolò Fagioli available.

Our Take on Monza’s Signings

It is routine for newly promoted teams to get very busy, but the Brianzoli are going the extra mile. The experience of Galliani and the deep pockets of owner Silvio Berlusconi will have them well-positioned to avoid relegation. Their window got off on the right foot, but they have a lot more to do.
