Morata Completes Medicals and Signs Milan Contract

Alvaro Morata is on the brink of officially becoming a new Milan player. Their whole brass flew to Madrid on Tuesday. The striker has taken the physical tests and put pen to paper, Sky reports.

The Rossoneri activated his €13M release clause. The sum was pretty low, and there wasn’t room to negotiate with Atletico Madrid. He inked a four-year deal with an option at €4.5/5M annual wages.

Morata talked about his upcoming Milan move to the outlet.

“I have a lot of confidence in Zlatan Ibrahimovic, the team, and the coach. I’m looking forward to getting started. My family helped me a lot, and I have to be with them; otherwise, I’d begin training tomorrow. I’ve been treated with incredible respect in Italy. Zlatan conveyed positive things and won me over. The best years of my career are ahead of me. I want to join this great club.”

According to Relevo’s Mattia Moretto, Atletico Madrid dismissed the possibility of his departure until a few days ago, as he clearly alluded to staying after rejecting a wealthy offer from Al-Qadsiah. However, the Rossoneri swooped in, and Los Colchoneros could do little about it given his release clause.

He has tallied 35 goals and 29 assists in 130 matches in Serie A during his previous spells at Juventus.

Our Take on Milan and Morata

It’s a solid piece of business, especially since he’s coming off one of his best seasons and a good Euro. However, their supposed intention of splurging on a young center-forward quickly went out of the window at the first sign of trouble. Plus, it might not be that much of an upgrade over Olivier Giroud.
