Moratti in Favor of Mourinho Returning on Inter Bench

Former Inter owner Massimo Moratti addressed the rumors linking José Mourinho to a potential Nerazzurri comeback and their season in general in an interview with TeleLombardia (via Alfredo Pedullà).

“When we started, the ambition was much higher compared to today’s reality. Napoli are very strong, but a 15-point gap makes you think that you didn’t do your best. We missed Romelu Lukaku’s contribution. He would have been very useful if fit. The Milan Skriniar saga might have created some issues too.”

“Lautaro Martinez is surely the player that surprised me the most. He has fared well both as a striker and as a captain. He has the right attitude. Hakan Calhanoglu is having nice performances in the midfield too. At the end of the day, we have interesting players.”

Moratti was asked whether Mourinho coming back would ruin a perfect ending.

“It’s not true that same old stories are always bad, but it depends on who’s involved. In my opinion, it would always be worth it with him. Antonio Conte was very good, but he tends to isolate himself and clash with everybody on a personal level. Instead, José did it as a club. His strategy led to important results.”

The ex-patron discussed Inter’s lack of support from the press.

“You always need to show face after a loss, so the fans understand that the future is bright. It’s the law of the strongest. I don’t know how the power is structured inside the club, but it’s easier to take a stance when things go well. As a fan, I expect somebody to come to the team’s defense when it’s necessary.”
