Motta is reportedly nearing a contract extension at Bologna, and the announcement is expected to become official during the upcoming international break.

Motta Plays Diplomatic Despite Milan Loss, Talks Transfer Plans

Bologna succumbed to a 2-0 defeat against Milan at the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara after they failed to rise from the two-goal deficit in under the opening ten minutes. Olivier Giroud and Christian Pulisic helped Milan take an early lead, following which Bologna proved toothless for the rest of the game. However, Rossoblù coach Thiago Motta praised his men for their efforts despite the loss in their 2023/24 season opener.

Motta spoke to the media (via TuttoBolognaweb) in his post-match press conference and chose to stay diplomatic despite the defeat at home.

“We were organised, we put in a good performance but Milan are a strong team, they’ve strengthened themselves and spent a lot: they’re among the favorites to win the championship. We were in the match right up to the end, trying to score the goal that would reopen the stakes. Now we need to recover energy and think about the game against Juventus. I don’t know what was missing, something certainly could have been done better.”

With ten days left in the transfer market, Motta spoke about Bologna’s plans.

“There’s the utmost seriousness in Bologna and everyone knows our needs; we’re trying to work hard to complete the squad. I would have liked to start the championship with the team finished but it wasn’t like that.”

Having faced the Rossoneri in matchday one, Motta and his troops will Bologna travel to Turin next Sunday to face Juventus.
