Mourinho and Motta Compliment Each Other Ahead of Roma-Spezia

As Roma prepare to welcome lowly Spezia at the Stadio Olimpico, the head coaches of both teams have reflected upon their relationship that apparently began in Barcelona, according to Jose Mourinho. Both Mourinho and Thiago Motta experienced the highs of their respective careers together at Inter a decade ago, during the Nerazzurri’s stupendous treble-winning season in 2009/10.

In his pre-match press conference (via Eurosport) ahead of the Serie A clash in the capital city, the Special One reminisced the first time he encountered the talented former central midfielder.

“People think I met Thiago at Inter, but I knew him when he was a kid at Barcelona. I saw him first when they sent me to coach the Primavera team and I have many good memories of him. He is one of mine. I have a lot of affection for him,” explained Mourinho.

Visiting boss Motta also commented in his press conference regarding his relationship with the Portuguese tactician.

Speaking to the club’s official channel ahead of the match, the former anchorman echoed Mourinho’s comments.

He said: “I have good memories of the treble-winning year with Mourinho at Inter. He is a coach who is an inspiration for everyone: his leadership, his charisma and the desire to win that he transmits to his players.”

Sitting in eighth place with 25 points, Roma seek to close the gap on the top four after a string of two consecutive Serie A defeats against Bologna and Inter.

Spezia on the other hand, have problems of their own, as they will try to upset the odds and extend their lead over the relegation places.
