Mourinho Diplomatic on Inter-Porto Tie, Praises Cambiasso

Roma manager Jose Mourinho is left having to watch two of his former teams go at one another in the UEFA Champions League knockout stage. Inter beat Porto 1-0 at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza thanks to Romelu Lukaku’s late strike, and Mourinho is aware he will be mourning the exit of one of the two teams in three weeks’ time.

Speaking to Sky Sports, the Special One commented on the Inter-Porto tie.

“They are part of my history and my life, unfortunately one of the two will leave the competition,” he said (via FCInterNews).

Mourinho then praised his ex-player Esteban Cambiasso, who now works as a commentator and pundit at Sky Sports.

“He’s a great commentator, he understands the game as well as he did when he was in the middle of the field. He communicates well, he dresses well and speaks well: he is perfect for the manager’s role. He manages to hide well the fact that he is a great Inter player. One day I expect him as my colleague, has the potential to do so.”

Cambiasso won five consecutive Serie A titles at Inter, including the historic treble under Mourinho in 2009/10.

Mourinho’s Roma take on RB Salzburg in the UEFA Europa League 2nd leg at Stadio Olimpico, seeking to overturn a 1-0 first leg deficit.
