Mourinho Keen to Reunite with Manchester United Midfielder Matic

With only a week remaining until the curtain closes for this year’s Serie A campaign, Mourinho is eager to reunite with Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic at Roma.

As it stands, the 34 year-old’s contract with the Red Devils is set to expire this summer. Therefore, the holding midfielder is set to depart Old Trafford in order to seek more playing time at a new club, ending his five year-stay in Manchester.

According to reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport, the “Special One” is eager on signing the Serbian international on a free transfer in order to lure him in at the Stadio Olimpico ahead of next season.

With midfield pair Bryan Cristante and Jordan Veretout potentially tipped for exit throughout the summer transfer window, the Portuguese tactician strongly believes that the well-documented midfielder can bolster the Giallorossi’s depth ahead of next year’s campaign, which will allow them to possibly push for a spot within the Champions League.

Mourinho is very familiar with Matic as the two have worked together previously at both Chelsea and Manchester United.

The box-to-box midfielder has made a total of 159 appearances with Mourinho in the dugout, playing  pivotal role in clinching two Premier Leagues, and an FA Cup throughout their time together with the Blues.

However, the club directors are not entirely certain that Matic would suit their needs as they are hesitant regarding his lucrative wage demands of €5M per-season.
