Mourinho Makes His Pick in the Midfield, Eyes Arsenal Striker

It is likely that just one between Sergio Oliveira and Jordan Veretout will stay at Roma in the summer. The Portuguese midfielder got off to an impressive start but waned afterward. The Frenchman was the starter in the first portion of the season, but his playing time has been sporadic since January.

According to Calciomercato.com, José Mourinho prefers the compatriot to the ex-Fiorentina man. The Giallorossi paid €1M to Porto for the initial six-month loan spell. They have a €13M option to sign him permanently. The management will thoroughly assess his performances before making the call. However, his agent Jorge Mendes could help them keep him by modifying the terms of the original deal.

While Oliveira has good chances to stay put, Veretout is likely to leave Roma. He has started just once in the last seven Serie A matches. The front office would look to sell him if the trend continued, also because he has a robust market. He has drawn interest from Newcastle and other Premier Leagues and was offered to Milan. The Giallorossi want €20M to part ways with him.

Mourinho wishes to tweak the attack too, as it has mostly struggled beside Tammy Abraham. The gaffer has reached out to Alexandre Lacazette to test the waters, SportMediaset reports. The forward has just six months left on his contract with Arsenal. Roma are headed for another busy summer where they will seek reinforcements both in the midfield, regardless of the future of Oliveira and Veretout, and up front.
